I’m so excited to share my first video on Jane Gera & Art Bujo Boutique! This year, I’ve decided to create a Monthly Cover series, with each cover inspired by food and drinks. For January, what could be cozier than a warm cup of coffee? ☕
The Concept: Coffee & Café Chalkboard Theme
For this illustration, I wanted to capture the feeling of sitting in a cozy café on a winter morning. My design features a steaming cup of coffee with a chalkboard-style background, listing different specialty coffee drinks—just like you’d see in a real café!
My Process & Materials
I used a mix of different tools to achieve the final look:
🖌️ Copic markers – for shading and coloring
🖊️ Black pen – for clean outlines
✏️ Pencil – for sketching the initial design
🖍️ White gel pen – to create the chalkboard effect
I started with a light pencil sketch, carefully planning out the composition. Once happy with the design, I used a black pen for crisp outlines and then added color with comic markers. The final touch? White gel pen for the chalkboard text, making it pop beautifully against the dark background.
